Ever sine I got my new bike, 2 months ago, I had very rough shifting. I could not adjust the shifting to shift well across all 10 gears.
If it shifted well on the low gears, it would skip on the high gears, and if I optimized it for the high gears, it will skip on the low gears.. I couldn't figure out what t'hell is going on. I started to suspect that the frame is off, or maybe the wheel is not centered (I have horizontal rear dropouts)..

So I decided to be a pu$$y and read the Campy manual (shudder) on installing and adjusting the rear derailleur. (RTFM)..

one picture caught my eye, where it shows how to route the cable through the derailleur clamp..

The light blue shows how the cable WAS routed, and the no-color cable is how it should be...

Once I corrected the way the cable goes through the clamp, and did a top to bottom adjustment, it shifts like buttah!!! :

I made that same exact mistake back in 1992 when I assembled my first Record Ergo groupo. The bad cable routing was altering the amount of derailleur movement between each click. I was starting to hate index shifting! It took me a week of screwing around to finally figure out exactly where the cable should go.....right on the groove...

It is amazing how much difference does this one millimeter makes. The shifting went from crappy to smooootthhhhhh... And now the shifting is so much more "forgiving", and fool proof.. Live and learn..
