Road Cycling - Anyone Bike in The Fort Myers Florida Area?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just wanted to get some ideas on where the best routes are?

My father lives half the year down there and he yaps constantly about a group called the Mudcutters. I don't have any other information than that, but perhaps the LBSs can help you out.

Okay, getting information was easier than I thought.

The site is about off-road riding, but as my Pop says, they ride on the roads too, especially in the summer.

Been too long for me to give a good answer. I grew up there, but haven't ridden there in 15+ years.
There used to be a good LBS across from the Edison Mall. They helped me with everything.
Summerlin used to be pretty good. The road out to the airport (Daniels?) was good once they paved it. It might be crouded now that it has extended past. I also used to go down Winkler because it was long with no traffic.
How is the damage? I've only heard bad thing from some friends who still live on Ussepa.
I live in Fort Myers and just started riding so I'm not too familiar with the routes yet. There is a bike club (non-offroad) called the caloosa riders and they have maps at their website for all around town. http://www.caloosariders.com/Maps%20Page.htm
Also you should check out the charity ride coming up in sept. http://www.everyonerides.org/ .it's for a good cause and I'm sure you'll meet lots of riders there.

I live in Sarasota not to far away. Check out all the bike shops, and their web sites. I met some F.M. ridders at the Venice race this year. So they are there. Good luck.

I lived in the Cape several years ago but visit every year. Earlier this summer I brought my road bike and cycled most days in the northern area of Cape Coral. Not much traffic during the day except for work trucks. Of course, there might be a lot more due to repairs from Charley.

I will be coming down to Fort Myers the weekend of the 19th and 20th for some exhibition baseball games and will have my bicycle with me. I would enjoy riding on Sunday morning with anyone who wants to (which would be especially helpful since I am not all that familiar with the area).

Ah, Florida!
First week of May always a vacation week on Sanibel Island. Rent a one-speed for the week and enjoy the view!
