Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Build my TT bike thread?

So as I get more into fixed time trials; I wanted to build a relatively budget time trial bike. Instead of wondering what components I should or shouldn't get; I'll leave it to the experts on the forum.

(Yes, cheap Chinese frame; however if I find a good used Planet-X or any other "name brand" frame, I would take it into consideration).

(However there was a set of Cane Creek for about $600 less).

get a carbon fork as the stock one is pretty heavy. That's a good place to start.

Cheap, check. Stiff, check. Light, definitely not. I know, cuz I have one.

A friend of mine has one too, he said the frame was ok, but the fork was the really heavy part. They do have a good finish on them though, and are very stiff and strong, which could be good for TT.

Well, if you believe the manufacturer's specs, the frame is also very heavy @ ~ 2 kg.

The tubing on the VISP frame is thick straight guage stuff that gives off a dull thunking sound when you tap it, compared to my Pista Concept which gives off a tinny sound. The VISP as shown in my photo weighs about 10 kg, whereas the Concept weighs nearly 3 kg less with the same wheels. Not that any of this matters for road TT's and such.

i would just get the frame you listed? :shrug:

when looking for a frame, especially at a budget, you should be more concerned with geometry than weight. it'd be better to ride a bike with proper TT geometry that weighs a pound more than a bike with road-ish geometry that weighs a pound less.

p.s. don't buy a headset until you buy a frame

I'm also wondering about you CF handlebar choice... I personally wouldn't run CF handlebars or stem because CF in that area scares me. Good alloy components there aren't going to be that much heavier and at least give me peace of mind. Also, when it comes to TT, weight doesn't really matter as much as aero.

The most important part of any dedicated TT bike = GET PRO FIT. I'M DEAD SERIOUS.
