Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - The polite I think this chap's bicycle is setup in a way I would not do myself thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

After seeing the Jackass thread was closed, I realized that the problem was with the low-brow title. So I thought that maybe we can be a bit more subjective with this sort of needed thread, because we all see bikes with peculiar setups and it is nice to share the reasons for this.

I think this kind of thread is useful because you can learn a lot about how not to setup your bike, but in a way that is fun, but informative without the personal egos getting offended.

Let me start off the way we intend to finish, with this recent new posting on the forum.

I have no objection to conversions, and whilst this is clearly an early foray into the single speed world, I am rather curious about the saddle and handlebar heights. Maybe he/she has very short legs and likes to ride in a very upright position due to a back problem. I don't know, but I certainly would recommend raising the saddle and dropping the bars a bit.

SS with only a rear brake...
and the brake cable is routed oddly.
front QR looks like it's been tightened in the "open" position, although this can be an optical illusion.

and it seems that the rattle can paint job was done very shoddily because the cranks and headset look like they were done together with the frame.

the TT says it all. All those who ride this will "expire"

I thought I worded it rather politely :innocent:

You guys are not even getting close to the reason why the other thread was closed. As to this bike, I agree that it is a rolling death trap.

Then hopefully this thread will work out better then.

Did you get that from theb9 cyclist thread???

okay, that QR is definitely tightened down in the open position, I just checked my own QRs and the levers would be in the open position at that position.

Old style closed cam QR levers are meant to be on the left side of the bike so that they can be closed facing rearward.

The polite I believe the grammar of this new thread's title is questionable at best response.

SS with only a rear brake...
Which is almost as bad as a FG with not a single brake. Like, for instance, every single bike in the Bike Porn thread.

The jackass thread and this one perpetuate the "I'm better than you and this is why" mentality that's is sort of bad around here. In short, it's snobish.

The entire objective of threads like these is to find a photo of someone's bike and make fun of it. Not very productive and while you are collectively laughing "Ha ha" at someone, you can and will offend someone.

Finally, restarting a locked thread with a slightly more PC title won't do it.

Locked.
