Well, I think I have decided on my bike. The '04 Cross Concept. :) For 2200 it's hard to pass it up and with a thousand down and then three payments of around 470 it's a doozy. :) I thought about the Axis but I really did not want another aluminum frame. Any thoughts? Suggestions? This bike is almost three times what my MTB cost :eek: but I think it'll be worth it. :)

The Scandium in the Cross Concept is an Aluminum Alloy.
From what I've read, the Scandium frames' durability isn't as good as steel or standard Aluminums (6061 or 7005).

Yeah, Scandium is an aluminum alloy like Specialized's M4 (though with Scandium not Boron).

For $2200 you could build up a pice of art. With that dough, you're in the price range for the Merckx Alu cross, the Kelly Knobby X, the Gunnar Crosshairs, a Ridley Crossbow or Empella Bonfire.

Think about it. The Bianchi is nice, but for the same money, you could be on some real exotica.

The thing is I want something durable and nice. I am kind of saddened that the Axis is aluminum. I was really looking for something other than aluminum. I thought about steel (I have seen a couple MTB's that are lighter than my aluminum one) or titanium. Unfortuantly, Ti is so damned expensive and I have not found a cromolly that catches my eye. What I may do is buy a frame and build up on it. Bah! But I will def. Check out those other bikes. Thanks!

I had the 2000 Axis- a cool radiant blue. I used it for a lot of commuting, plus occassional off-road and a few races once I actually got around to doing a CX race. after 3 years and perhaps 12,000 miles, my Axis failed at the bottom bracket welds. pretty scary to see, though i wasn't hurt.

Bianchi was willing to warrantte it with either credit towards a new built-up axis as they had no framesets (not too appealing as I had all the parts) , credit towards the cross-concept, and the discontinued chromo-lite steel frame (with carbon fork).

since i'm a fairly big guy (190-200lbs) and I already busted the aluminum, I couldn't see going for the super light scandium alloy (even though it's cool looking bike). so, I went for the steel.

it's a cool bike, and I can live with the extra lb or whatever
