OK, so today's payday, and I'm finally going to buy myslef some cycling shoes. Any real strong recommendations or warnings regarding my 'straps-to-cleats' transition?
I've got some older SPD pedals from a swap meet (M-535s, I think) that appear to be in good working order. So, I need cleats and shoes. I've tried on low-end Shimanos and Diadoras, and the Shimanos were a much better fit for my narrow feet. However, they were lace-up, rather than velcro straps. Actually, I think there is one 'lace arrestor' strap near the ankle.
I would like to try on lots more shoes, but because this is my first pair of clipless shoes, I want to buy them at REI because of their liberal return policy, and the Shimanos are all they really have in my price range (up to $80).
Of course, I have to buy separate cleats. $20 for those little buggers!
Any thoughts, comments regarding this purchase?
TIA
