Hi all,
My name is Jamie and I'm a biking addict.
I just can't stop. I want more and more. All the time, I'm wanting more.
I think the only way I can quench my biking thirst is to work up to doing a century ride. I have a couple questions.
1) Is there a good training schedule that you know of that I could try and follow? I've been gradually adding 5-10 miles per ride per week over the past 2 weeks. Now I can do 17 miles at at time, without much of a problem. Should I ride 5 days pretty hard, then have 2 days off? I automatically push myself when I'm riding, I've always been self-inspiring that way. I feel great when I do better today than yesterday.
2) I have a mountain bike. It's old. I want to get a hybrid, I don't think I'm interested in a road bike. I like straight handlebars. Does anyone know of a good hybrid bike that's workable for 100 mile rides? I've been looking at the Marin SanRafael, and the Trek 7000 series. Or is that asking to much of a hybrid?
3) Any kind of foods I should be eating? I'm a vegetarian, so meat is out. I eat a good deal of fruit, grains, nuts and the like. Does anyone know of an training/eating schedule I could get on? I've been looking around but haven't found any kind of 14-day menu to follow. Are alcoholic drinks off the list? I don't drink that much, but I do like whiskey and a good beer. I'm starting to feel like I don't want to drink much anymore because it'll interfere with riding the next day, which is good, I guess.
Any suggestions would be great. Have a good day.
