Road Cycling - Saddles

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hi whats up? I'm a big dude 6'5'' 295 and I'm looking for a really comfortable saddle. I recently started riding on a '04 fuji newest. I love it ,but the saddle bites. Any suggestions my @$$ will thank you. Also i don't want to get a big goofy gel saddle. what sucks is you can't really test ride one w/o buying it.

I'm loving my Brooks B17 at 6'3" 220#. I've got 2,000 miles on it and I never notice it's there.

It's neat to see something that looks so classic is still the among the best seat to buy.
I'm going to get one...

True. But any good LBS will let you exchange saddles and only charge you or credit you the difference in price.
I rode a San Marco Rolls for a while because it came with the bike. Pretty comfy and not a bad price or too heavy either. look here (http://www.excelsports.com/new.asp?page=8&description=Rolls+Titanium+Saddle+no+embroidery&vendorCode=SANMARCO&major=1&minor=18)
The Brooks saddles are kewl. They are comfy too and have a retro-grouch appeal.

About the Brooks saddles...I'm considering putting one on my Volpe for commuting and touring. What's the deal with these leather saddles in the rain? What do you have to do to maintain them in such conditions?

Get a tin of Proofide with your saddle. Wipe a bit on and rub it into the saddle. You don't need a ton, just a dab will do ya. Do the same for the underside, but I put about twice as much on since it kinda soaks in real fast underneath. I put some more on once a week or so for the first month, then once in a while when it starts looking dry. They says this waterproofs it, but I still cover it with a plastic bag if I know it's going to rain while I'm in work. You're not supposed to apply proofide to the saddle when it's wet either. (I guess it could trap in moisture?)
All in all it was a great decision. Permaco.com had it almost $25 cheaper than anywhere else I looked. $58 vs $85 that my LBS wanted. Even with the proofide and shipping it was cheaper than the LBS. Plus, the LBS said it'd take 5-10 business days for it to come in since they didn't keep it in stock. Permaco had it on my doorstep in less than 2. I placed the order tuesday around 6pm and it was on my doorstep when I got home from work on Thursday.

Airik when I bought my road bike if came with a fezik pave. The two of us never fell in love.....ouch! I started looking at some of the "A" riders from our LBS, and quiet alot of them were on Koobi saddles. Saddles are thier only business. you can go to koobi.com. or call 719-484-0477. I talk to Phil, they want to know your age, weight, size, and even the bike you ride. Then make suggestions for your perfict saddle. I love my PRS Enduro.
THanks for all the advice peoples. It looks like brooks might take the cake here, but I'm definatly gonna check out this KOOBIE place too. RIDE ON!!!

you can get a 6month money back no-questions asked on a brooks from wallbike.com
And, Lo and Behold, Google has suggested Wallbike in the ad.
I second the brooks. I have a team professional and a B17. The team pro took about 500 miles to break in but is now a dream. It went from very comfortable to...to... well, it seems to have disapeared!

Selle Italia Flite...I know, skinny, and scary looking...but they seem to be comfortable for a whole range of people..
