Hi all
My bike develloped a clicking noise from the bb area. It is only when i push on pedals hard enough to accelerate.
I have replaced the bottom bracket and the noise went but only for an hour.
I have since checked the crank bolts, the tightess of the bb.
The bb is a cartidge one.
My bike is a mountain bike that i use for commuting
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Mr Zippy

Sounds a bit like what I recently suffered from:

It's still gone, and there being some play and it being eventually taken up through use is the only explanation that still fits what happened. Nothing else I checked or other people suggested matched.
If taking up the play the way I suggested in that thread doesn't get rid of it, then it's probably worth working through Sheldon's list:

thanks for your reply mr zippy.
i got fed up with the noise and took the bike to my lbs
they told me to open it all up and grease everywhere on threads ect
i did that and now the noise is gone.
Glad you figured it out in the end. Maddening, those clicks are.
I've had clicking noises from the bottom bracket area 3 times now, one just recently, each seemingly triggered by pushing hard on the right pedal (out of saddle, etc). First time was because of some noisy bearings in the right pedal (fixed by replacing the pedal). Second time was because the rear wheel quick release wasn't closed firmly enough. Third time was because the left pedal threads or bearings were dry (took a while to figure out, since I thought the noise was linked to force on the right pedal). I ended up re-lubing the bottom bracket and crank each time, which were, in the end, never the problem.
The consensus that BB noises tend not to be from the BB itself (and frequently due to pedals) is something I can attest to.
