I am an ameteur rider and mostly ride for fun and as of now I have an old Nishiki road bike that i got for five bucks at a thrift store. I know nothing about nishiki and was wondering if anyone new if they are a good bike brand.

Nishiki was good-to-better-than-ok about 20 years ago, but depends on model and components. $5 is a deal no matter what for just about any Nishiki if it's in ok shape...

You oughta' just ride it, enjoy it and save up your money until you have a fair amount of experience and a pretty concrete idea of what's out there that you might want more (assuming you ever want to upgrade). Ultimately, doesn't really matter unless your equipment is getting in the way of your having a good time...

Older top-end Nishikis are quite good... at some point in the early 1990's they began farming out construction of the lower end models to China, at which time the frames truly began to suck (inferior steel, poor craftsmanship, etc.). Is there any information on the frame like a chro-moly sticker, or a serial number/model name, etc? Also, what is the make and model of the componentry?
