Folding Bikes - Exploded Downtube...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

'Downtube' as in the Folding Bike and 'Exploded' as in the Tech Drawing term. Time came to give the IX FS a service and I decided to replace all the drive-train and any other knackered bits.

...A bike barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first! Downtube with some replaced bits. This will be that bike. Better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster.

Mon Dieu! I cannot understand how anyone can reduce a bike to that amount of bits, and still get it all back so it functions as a bicycle. The man is a wizard.
The Downtube IX FS is certainly one of the most handsomest folders though, do we foresee cartridge bottom brackets, hand-carved derailléurs and possibly, funny handlebars?

I'm no Harry Potter! More of a Hairy Pootler!
Just took lots of pics during disassembly and magically didn't have any bits left after rebuild.

The Handlebars are possibly gonna be switched and you should see my new Bottom Bracket!
I'll take 'handsomest' as a personal compliment. For when I ride, me and my bike are as one! Man and machine in harmony! - Yeah! Right!
Snafoo - Lovely to have you back on the forum. :thumb:

You're welcome, I'm a 'senior' member now, heading for a free bus pass. I'm just up the road from you in Hampshireville, we must get together to chortle at my efforts to get up hills. I still miss my Downtube IX FS possibly the most comfortable bike in the world. Do we forsee a drop-bar sprinter appearing out of your mysterious pile of bits?
