Hi, I just bought a used bike from a friend (it only had 10 miles on it). It's a Cannondale R300 CAAD3 road bike. Can anybody tell me what kind of bike this is? What type of bike is a R300 (racing? touring? general purpose?)? I figured out that CAAD3 is the type of frame, but what are the characteristics of this type of frame?
I searched on www.Cannondale.com but interestingly, there is no mention of this bike.

Only problem I'm having so far is that one or two of my rear spokes keeps coming loose. I have taken it to a bike shop and had the rear wheel trued, but after just riding it a few miles one or two of the spokes comes loose and the wheel gets bent again. I have to stop every 5 miles and tighten them or else the wheel will bend so much I can't ride it anymore. Can this problem be fixed or do I need to buy a new wheel?

Thanks for any info.

To fix the wheel you will have to find a bike shop with a good wheelbuilder. If the rim is perfect, it needs to have all the spokes loosened and retensioned to the correct equal tension, preferably using Wheelsmith SpokePrep and a spoke tensionmeter. The reason it is loosening now is because the spoke tension is unequal. You need a new bike shop.

You didn't look hard enough (http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/00/cusa/model-0RR3T.html)
The CAAD3 frame was, at one time, a frame the Mario Cippolini rode in the Giro and the Tour. Compared to the Optimo, it's probably 20% heavier that the newest all aluminum frame. And the Six13 is a bit lighter than the Optimo.

On your wheel...as the other poster said. Have all the spokes retightened...I'd take it someplace else, too. But understand that the wheels on this bike are not the greatest, but entry level type. If you are a big person, that may be contributing to the problem.

Recreational road bike. One up from the bottom of the barrel in the lineup that year.Decent enough frame. Gotti won the Giro on it. The rear wheel needs to be properly rebuilt by someone that knows what they are doing.
