I have a new bike with Ultegra rear derailer and shifters. 105 front derailer. Took it back to the lbs and it works great on the stand. I take it out on rides and it seems like it skips on the rear derailer. I turn the adjustment on the handlebars till the skip is gone. Shift up or down a couple of gears and same ole thing a little skip here and their in a different gear. What is going on here? I'm a beginner on these ajustments, so any help would be apreciated.

Probably what's happening is that the shift cable housing is still seating itself in the cable stops. Until it completely does that, you might find yourself making several small cable tension adjustments similar to the ones that you've already done. That's why bike shops offer "free" 30 day tune ups.
Sometimes, if the right cable housing ends haven't been installed on the cable housing, the housing kind of unravels itself and leaves little hair-like wires sticking out of the wrong end of the cable stops. Then you have to replace the cable housings. I doubt that's the problem on a new Ultegra equipped bike.

I can give you 2 pieces of advice from my limited 4 years experience with both Campy and Shimano.
1) before you start screwing around with the dérailleurs them self, try and squirt some thin lube into the STI shifter mechanism. Many many problems originate there.
2) a most common cause for non-linear shifting problems (shift OK on low gear, but not on high rears, and vis-a-versa) is the way the cable terminates on the derailleur itself. There is one specific way the cable must be clamped, and every little variation causes non-liner shifting problems.. Download the PDF for your derailleur from Shimano site and look at the directions of how the cable gets clamped. It is different from group to group..

I Havent noticed the cable attachment to be different from group to group. It goes below the retaining bolt and if one looks closely it's obvious.
