General Cycling Discussion - aerobars

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I recently got a new bike and had the aerobars on the old bar transferred to them. My new bike is a Specialized Roubaix. The stem is up higher. It's a very comfortable bike. The seat is one of the most comfortable I've had, except when I am in the aerobar position. It's like it goes right thru my man parts. I can't stay in the aero position long, which disappoints me because I do triathlons. Any suggestions? I don't want to tilt the seat down because it is quite comfortable when I am up on the top or in the drops.

They do take a bit getting use to, I myself don't stay in the bars for extended periods. If you are experience discomfort because of seat position then you have no choice than to experiment & find some kind of compromise.

Possibly it's a reach issue. One suggestion is to find aerobars were the elbow pads are on your side of the handle bars. Or maybe your seat is too far back.

Most people require a different saddle position when using aerobars. Typically the saddle nose needs lowering (pointed down). Also the saddle needs moved forward or you use a forward leaning seatpost. Otherwise you have a bad (less than ideal aero) position or aren't comfortable. I would take the bike into the LBS and ask them to take a look on you sitting on a trainer and ask for their recommendation.
