Few months back, my sister was staying here and I got her a Petunia:

But when sister left I forgot plants need sun and water... petunia died.

Today I found an almost expired home depot gift card and I remembered the GF saying she liked yellow flowers so I went there. In the gardening section there were like 15 clients. Everybody except me was an old lady, with gray hair and a cane. Maybe Tuesdays is seniors day @ home depot. Thing is they were walking really slow. But I'm off today, I wasn't in a hurry. I just walked behind the golden ladies without a care in the world, picking up flowers. I spent like an hour there. A young male employee looked at me like he wanted to violently take my man card away.

Anyways, I got these:

I hope they don't die...

top row, zinnia, marigold, marigold, marigold, zinnia
bottom row, vinca (periwinkle), vinca (periwinkle)

All should do well in full sun to very light shade. The periwinkle needs full sun really. If you plant any of them out of full sun, be sure not to overwater.

Use a water soluble plant food like Miracle Gro with a high middle number, (10-20-10) or get some SuperBloom.

Pretty flowers, pretty helper.

You might have re-plant the flowers once they get a bit bigger or else their roots will get crowded in the pots. Maybe get a larger rectangular planter to put in the space where they are now. Give 'em some room to grow.

Keep a marigold near each other plant. Aphids hate the smell of marigolds.

the flowers by the drive are verbena. As you have found, they will thrive in hot, sunny locations.
