Hey, I would like to make a trip to Florida (from the puget sound area) to ride in a distance event (metric century.. up to a century) sometime this year. I'll be riding with a friend who is a beginner (I'm not much more than that but...) so he wouldn't be interested in something that involves a lot of climbing (not a lot of mountains in florida anyway...right?)

Something in the Tampa area would be ideal, but not an overriding factor.

Thanks in advance.

Mountains in Tampa? Try the Sunshine Skyway bridge.

What month will you be in FL?

Most of the early season long supported rides are over. We are now starting our five month summer season and there are very few supported rides here due to the heat and humidity. That doesn't mean you can't do your own rides. October is a great month with several excellent supported rides. Here is a website that has a calendar of FL and Southern GA and AL rides. It is a great resource for making some plans. http://www.floridabicycle.org/fbtc/

It looks like I just missed the "Strawberry Century" sponsored by the Tampa Bay Freewheelers. That might be the one to plan for next year.
