The tree won.

Was going through some fast singletrack, lost traction regained it to notice I was going to crash into a tree. Had no time at all to react. I'm relatively ok, nothing broken. Damage to the bike front wheel has a massive flat spot, still finished the ride on it all 15 miles of. Me, I bruised my chest, bruised my left shoulder at th collar bone, and scratches and other bruises.

Sorry to hear about that. You finally got a ride in after not getting out for the last few days. That sucks.

Dude...ouch,

Doesn't look like you wear a full face helmet. With your riding, I would supposed a fullface wouldn't hurt.

I would have actually been worst off if I used my full faced helmet

You tree-hugger! :D It's half the fun but you might want to be careful next time you go out and try to be one with nature. I'm glad you're okay otherwise. Heal up soon. Too bad bikes can't heal by themselves. :(

I don't get it. How so? Would the shape of the full face helmet cuase your neck to twist and possibly break your neck?

At the clip I was going at, I am lucky enough to escape without any breaks. If I had the full face helmet on the mouth support could have broke and stabbed me in the neck.

Yea, my last ride at Big Bear I played some tree pinball. I dove into an offshoot of singletrack doing about 30mph or so, I hit a babyhead boulder with my rear tire, threw me off line hit a tree with my left hand/ handlebar, flew through the air straight up and hit a tree in a why that looked like I was hugging it, then bounced of yet another tree before hitting the ground. When I got to the bottom of my run everyone asked me what the hell happened to me.

I said I ate it why? They pointed out my jersey and it had bark and splinters inbeded into it and big holes. Good thing for body armor; probably would have ment a trip to the ER.

I was coming through a particularly fast curve on a trail with lots of fallen trees. They usually center-cut the trees but the cuts aren't as wide as the trail so you really have to be in the slot to make it through. I rounded a blind corner and found myself wide of the slot. The rest is as what one would predict.

A bunny hop might have cleared it if I knew how to effect a four-foot hop. And this presumes I didn't smack into a trees in the landing zone. Remember that I came across the fallen tree after rounding a curve and at the speed I was going, I would have never been able to stay on the trail (which was still curving) after any kind of aerial excursion.
