Road Cycling - Getting bike next week...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Ok, so I've come up with the money and I'm ready to buy my first road bike. I'm gonna get the Giant OCR3 and have a few options of stores. There's this one really nice guy, (yes a one man shop) but he has the higher price ($600). The other shop is a chain, and has the bike for $550. The chain isn't quite as nice. Do I ask the one man shop to match that price? I feel awkward asking him, maybe he can't afford to cut the price down.
Thanks :)

If $50 is a lot of money to you right now -- as it is for many people in this econ -- and you're not going to buy from the small shop, then ask. If he says no, you've lost nothing. Apologize to him for buying from the evil chain, but don't think twice. Someday you'll have the money to patronize the smaller better shops.

You could always ask, worst thing is him saying no. Maybe the small shop offers some better service after you buy it.
