Great Lakes - campgrounds along Ohio And Erie Canal towpath?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My wife and I would like to spend a weekend riding the Ohio and Erie Canal towpath bike trail.Does anyone anyone familiar with the area know if there are any decent campgrounds close to the trail? We thought maybe we would ride north and take the train back to our starting point. Thanks in advance for any info.

The only three places I know of along the O&E are the Hostel in Boston township (near the ski "resort", in Akron at the Summit County MetroParks Big bend area there is primitive camping, and in Canal Fulton at the Canoe Livery there is camping. If you stay in Canal Fulton, talk to the bike shop owner in front, and he might just let you leave the bikes in the shop over night for safe keeping. :)
My family is planning a trip along the towpath as well but some of the trail information is sketchy south of akron. We will be riding from Cleveland to Zoar and back. Can you recommend a source for trail info/maps? We were planning a night or two in a hotel in Massilon.

The touring section has some information on this, as well as some pictures from some members who camped along there.
Thanks, I'll check that out. I also found this web site: http://www.ohioanderiecanalway.com/ This has been a lot of help.

There is a campground not too far from the towpath in Canal Fulton. It is called Clay's Park. The campground is about 2 miles south of town on rt. 93

I would stay away from Clay's Park, if you are staying for just the night. It is advertisied as more of a resort. Plus they hold alot of multiday events, might not work with your schedule.
