Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Greetings, I am 55 Y/O and learned how to ride a bicycle August 10. I know the day well, brought the bike home and practices until I could ride. Fearful of falling I bought a Townie 3, where I can put both feet on the ground when sitting (semi-recumbent). After reading all the miles you guys put on I feel ashamed riding my 3 miles a day, but it takes me 20 minutes. I have been riding every day after work. I know that in a month I will be doing 10 miles easily. Hoping to lose 50 lbs, I do other exercise as well.
Great forum.

Hi Roger,
Congratulations on learning a new skill! Better late than never! What's so great about cycling is that age is not a factor. It won't take long to increase your time and distance if you ride most days. Cycling is a sport that can really grow on you. Yesterday on our club ride, an older gentlemen cycled the short route (28 miles) on his recumbent..he mostly had a smile the whole time!
Good luck and welcome,
