Folding Bikes - Moulton

Theres a post on commuters forum by a guy who paid $200 for a F model Moulton and didnt know what it was. Wanted to know if he paid to much further down in thread. Its in close to perfect original condition. I would kill for it at that or close to that price. Should be a law about who can own one.:innocent:
Nearly made me cry,he was talking how he launches it up to 4 ft when riding it off of stuff. I tried to clue him in a bit.
Anyway rather than convert my Brompton over to a 2 spd kick back im going to wait and see what the new Moulton one with belt drive is going for and possibly finally get a Moulton. I dont seem to have much success finding a good used one. None around here.

In the US, the TSR-2 will be $1895.00 ... they haven't been released yet .. most likely mid year..

O no, I didnt say that $200 was to much! In reality I was happy to pay $200 without even riding it or even ever seeing one. It looked like a rust pile covered in cobwebs and crusty well, rust! The head badge was missing and I just wanted help with what it was do to the fact that I just love the thing and it is fun to ride! As far as me having one, I am going to keep it original? It was born in 1964 (I found on the hub) the same year I was born and I came here to find more info on it. What I found is that I should not have one,,, What do the rest of you think of that?

What's great is that a 1964 bike is being ridden instead of mouldering in a shed someplace. Ride that bike!

Check out this little beauty, not exactly original, the Mk III was never offered as anything other than a 3 speed, but I could still live with it.

I love that it has the Duomatic hub. I'm loving it on my MK3. A natural marriage.

I am 8 years car free and make my living on bicycles and not from them. but the Moulton bike I have been riding (on sunny days:)) after work. You guys helped me so much and THANK YOU but now I am looking at some of the newer ones and just droooOOling over them! I want to set up a newer one for touring but the price,,, sheesh!

Yeah at least you know now why everything thinks you got that bike for quite a steal! It would have easily gone for like 4 times that price! A new moulton is like unobtainium, a used one is like gold.

I'm listed on the Moulton website (http://www.moultonbicycles.co.uk/dealers.html#USA) as one of the California dealers, I have the 2010 Moulton price list. Moulton range is from $1895 to 26825 ... keep me in mind if you want one.

BTW, none other than Sheldon Brown owned, and adored, a 1964 Moulton (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/org/moulton-deluxe.html) which is practically identical to yours. That alone says a lot. I note he had put a Brooks on there complete with saddle bag. And a hilarious cornucopia of crap on the handlebar stem

The Sturmey 2 speed kickback hub that was widely pictured on the TSR-2 was the only one released by Sturmey.. until Sturmey officially releases the hub (June I've been told), the TSR-2 should then also be available.

Although Alex Moulton will vehemently insist the Moulton is not a folding bike, I think separate-able bikes are considered perfectly acceptable in this forum - Moultons with kingpin, Dahon Smoothhound etc.

A 2 speed moulton with no rear gear cable links to brake could make for a speedy split - see video -

The AM2 has that thumb screw kingpin (1m:10s in the above video) which seems to be more user friendly than the TSR's stock hex kingpin.

Anybody knows if such a kingpin will fit the TSR?

they are indeed lovely.
but in my case here in indonesia, bringing this bike on the train from bogor to jakarta, 40km,
I would be charged 1 extra ticket.(1dollar 10cents)
with a dahon, or hasa f2, or my cheap wimcycle bazooka (all folding) :

The difference in price between a typical Dahon and a typical Moulton is between two and five thousand dollars. If you can afford $3K more for a bike, you can probably afford $3K more to take the bike on a train every single day for eight years.

with respect to those who admire moultons, this expensive bike just isn't for me.

and if I were rich enough to buy one, I will not take it on a train.
it will be in the trunk of my range rover...:lol:



(ride and need a folder to commute. trains, buses, and taxis)
