Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What year did they stop using the front gear with the word "Triumpth" in it? See Pic below.
This pic is not from below listing.

the owner thinks its from 1957, but by the pics as far as I can see it looks more like late 60s or early 70s to me, (CL pics look like a Raleigh, to me)

I think it could be 50's/60's. By the late 60's, second tier marques usually got the generic Raleigh crankset with ovalized arms. Can you date the bike it came from?
The photos on the craigslist posting are too low-res for my eyes. But the chainguard looks like a Raleigh one. I agree it looks late 60's /early 70's, but the proof is on the AW hub. Also, if the trigger cable goes in a housing down the downtube to a fulcrum on the chainstay, that's a late bike.
1957, I just kinda doubt it. But even so, 1957 is after Raleigh bought the Triumph name (1954, sez Sheldon Brown).
I can't recall any photos of early 50's Triumph sports models, but most non-Raleighs had a more substantial looking chain guard than what's shown in the CL photos.
Without better pics, it's hard to tell, but that looks like a late '60s/early '70s bike to me. My '73 looks like similar (sorry for the cluttered background):

Thanks GNA, I think your bike is just like the one on craigs list, I asked him for additional pictures, but I think he realized his was not as old as he thought, once I ask him about certain details. (he did not send any)
GNA do you know a value of your bike in its present condition? it's a nice looking bike by the way.
I really want one with the name in the crank and I will keep looking, I think I love the hunt as much as the find.

I have no idea of the value--it was a lucky find. I paid $20. My local Craigslist had a similar 23" Triumph listed at $250, but I can't believe it's worth that much. Maybe $75-100?
