i hope this is the right forum!

I have a female friend who is trying to buy her boyfriend a bike for his birthday. He really wants a trials bike, but he's looking at bikes around 700.00 which she cant afford. Does anybody know of a cheaper option? Thanks in advance.

Faith is out today. She called in sick. :p

Might want to try the mountain bike forum. Trials bikes are considered mtbs, even the 20" ones. And, that's about all I know about trials bikes, or I'd offer more help.

Your friend's boyfriend may also be looking for a time trials track bike, which is an entirely different animal. If that's the case, the time trials discipline in track riding doesn't have any more specific requirements than any other track race. Fixed gear, track nuts (not quick releases) on the wheel hubs, and no brakes. However, there's also a discipline in mountain biking that goes by the same name. Unfortunately, a lot more information is needed before it's possible to narrow anything down.

Tad bit too late buddy. I'm sure his birthday has passed. Look at post dates from now on.
