Make sure the frame fits you before you buy.
$30 is about what it is worth if the frame is in good shape.
Some of my favorite bikes have been 70s era GPs.
Good luck with the rebuild. I have converted several.
BTW all the components are heavy steel and once replaced reduce total weight by 8 lb.
Also the year of manufacture will be stamped on the bb spindle.
See Sheldon Browns site.
edit: If you change out the steel wheels to 700c Al you will need new brake calipers.
Enjoy
^ Good info. I'm glad you came back to the site, I like what you have to say.

Ha, wow I don't remember the last time I even saw an older road bike for less than $75, and most of the time those are like huffy's or Ross or some other crap. I don't know anything about that bike in particular, but I think Raleigh uses pretty standard size components and stuff, so it wouldn't be too difficult to upgrade parts.

Hey man, you started it. Don't dish it out if you can't take it. And, for the record, I'm not the mod you are talking about.

I did start it. But I was kinda making fun of myself too by Photoshopping my head on onto a fat lady pushing a shopping cart.

That's not the point. You were making fun of another person because of the way he looked, and he just fought back. Just because you think it's funny, doesn't mean someone else who is the target of your jabs finds it funny as well. A joke is a joke only if everyone is laughing. Capiche?

If that bike was on sale at that price here on new york craigslist I would buy it in a jiffy. I have one back home I saved from the dump, I love it. They have personality.
