I just bought a burley encore and went for our first ride with my daughter. We parked and I realized an important question: How do I lock this thing up? I had a bike lock for my bike but not for my trailer - which is just as expensive as my bike. If someone invests 60 seconds on my trailer, they can detach it and throw it into a truck or car. So, how do I lock the thing up. Just running a cable through the back wheels would require a 66 inch long cable - which isn't manufactured. 6ft would allow enough room to take the wheels off.

Anything fool proof someone inventive has come up with? Thank you.

I don't have a Burley, but I detach my trailer, place it next to my bike, and lock the two together, running the cable through both.

I never could figure out a good way, so I never used to let ours out of my sight.

In the affluent suburbs where I park our Burley, the few people who know what it's worth aren't likely to be cruel enough to steal it. I lock the bike but never the trailer.

If I wanted to lock it, I'd run a cable through the Burley frame. If you are really worried about somebody stealing the wheels, get nutted or locking skewers, depending on the level of security you want. I use locking skewers on my commuter, and only lock the frame or a wheel depending on what's easiest to reach from the rack/pole/park bench/natural gas line.

I have two cable locks. One is used to secure the bike to something nd the other is used to secure the trailer to the bike. I have only ever used it once though since my dog and I ususally only go where there aren't many people.
