Electric Bikes - Lycra people

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi, I probably oughtn't be writing any of this, I know that "what I would say must and will be used against me", but I'm a bit fed up of what I'm reading in the ebike forums. As a former ebiker and now a lycra biker, I keep reading some ebike forums, and recently I've read many posts in which ebikers mock at lycra bikers calling them "looking like a ***", "looking like a semi-plonker". Well, if that is your way of not feeling bad about driving a so weird thing like you are driving, ok for you, but I'm not feeling a *** nor a semi-plonker for wearing lycra, I know you won't be able in your whole life of doing the kind of exercise I do, besides although a little weird, when I look myself in the mirror, I don't see nothing of it. Excuse me for writing all this, I'm beginning already to feel afraid of what will become of this, of course not in this thread.
The asterisks read for f-a-g, the forum has censored them.

I don't understand what the problem is. I'm just happy someone else is on a bike. I wear lycra stuff because I find it more comfortable.

Thanks for your sane comment. I do know where the problem is, but perhaps I'm the only one.

I guess it is just people misunderstanding why others wear lycra. I mean sure it is probably overkill if you are going a few miles to the shops or something, but if you are on the bike for a decent amount of time you begin to feel the benefits.
To be fair though, people often mock ebike users for being lazy etc. so in some ways perhaps it is just tit for tat.
As for me, I'll just go and ride. I've started to try to ignore comments, horns etc. and just enjoy my ride as if I get angry about stuff like that, it is only me who is affected.

I think it's more of an opinion based thing. Personally I look like a total Fred on the road. My bike is built for function, to get me from A to B. I could care less about lycra or the people wearing it. I'd probably wear it too if it didn't mean I'd have to bring a complete change of clothes with me to school instead of an extra T-shirt for those hot days.
Lycra was developed for a reason and people wear it for that reason. The only thing I find humorous is when I see a person riding in full kit with bike to match. I'm not laughing at them, it's just not that common so they stick out.
Bottom line, wear what you want, at least they aren't another cager pushing me into the door zone.

people wearing lycra while riding bikes in my city is VERY common. I see them almost everyday actually. The street near me is a heavily biked street. I guess they train on it. I don't see anything wrong with it. I sometimes wave at them. I'm an e-biker. You'll never hear me call a serious cyclist a name on here but I might refer to them sometimes as Lycras or something but it's just in good fun.
