I dunno - is it any more dangerous than couch surfing in iceland, or staying in a hostel with 50 strange guys in Germany?

Honestly, if I was opening up my home to people via websites like couchsurfing.net or homestay, I'd be more concerned that they'd drug me, rob me blind, then burn down my house than the other way around.

I think the biggest problem will be finding a home that you are compatible with in terms of lifestyle and religion.

you DO realize that a homestay is NOT an adoption? Master the washing machine, QW, and find an apartment - with or without roommates.

For example, being desexed suddenly

Actually, being desexed suddenly is highly preferable to having it done slowly.

forced to intercourse with the grannies?

Don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

As I cannot handle...the stench from the toilet

Learn to flush.

For the religion aspect, christian will be placed on my priority list. (less opportunity for encountering the tragedies)
For the lifestyle aspect, it doesn't a big matter for me, as I have my own daily routine, and won't have not much time left to have fun with them. Of course, if there is a beautiful sister under 16, it would be an exceptional case.

OP Do you remember in your other thread how I asked if you were sponsored and how you were planning your stay? There was a reason.

I have had student renters at my house near the University for 7 years now. Each year I have a new set of renters and we meet and discuss compatibility and renter agreements. As long as the house rules and the house mates are respected, there should be no problem. The only incident where I had to ask someone to leave is when he started to bring his over night guest to stay at the house for several weeks and it was unfair to the tenants to pay that person's share of utilities.

You should be relatively safe as long as communication is open not only with the house mates but with your family as well. Using your instincts and common sense are vital also.

what about living in a dorm?

Yeah, this.

Just about every college/university around here that I know of requires that entering Freshmen stay on campus- either dorms or student apartments (owned/managed by the school). I have a niece who graduated from a local high school and attended the U of Tulsa. She was required to stay on campus at first, even though her parents house was less than 20 miles away. Something about making the transition easier...

But if the OP is looking at Grad School, well then the housing requirement doesn't apply.

If you can't handle the washing machine, you're going to have a problem finding someone to stay with because once your clothes start smelling like the stench of the toilet you so despise, they'll ask you to leave. And by ask, I mean put all your stinky stuff outside and change the locks so you can't get back in. Learn how to wash your own stuff and it'll go a long way to helping you find people to live with. As for being "desexed suddenly", I'm assuming you mean haivng your johnson cut off suddenly or something like that. Maybe you've heard these stories from others who can't stand the washing machine and after repeated requests to wash the toilet-like stench out of your clothes (and repeated refusals because you can't handle the simple device called a washing machine), the hosts lost their minds and did the "desexing". If you can't fend off the grannies from forcing you to have intercourse, you have yet another whole set of problems... and if so, you might want to consider that if a granny can force you into intercourse, it may be the only female intercourse you'll wind up having; I don't know too many young women who are interested in such a wimp of a boy.

And this tells me that it's not the family that you have to worry about , but rather the pedophile the family may be bringing into their home.

To the OP, what are you planning on studying and what college accepted you? Yes, America is the home of sudden desexxing, axe hole **** murders and octagenerian sex offenders. Does nothing bad ever happen where you live? If so, can we all move there and watch the Oompa Loompas make the yummy chocolate and partake of the fizzy lifting drink?

have you ever thought of writing for the tourism board? We had an ad here for california and the line was pretty good...something about being in california is hard work and then images of wonderful vacation activities and ends with Arnie saying "when can you start". I think your axe murder line beats that.

You apparently don't realize that no matter where you live, you will be expected to do your own laundry. And if you are staying in a house with other people, you will be expected to do your share of the housecleaning. That will probably include things like taking out the garbage and cleaning toilets. That's all part of being an adult, and if you can't handle those things, you might not be grown up enough to leave home.

that's a bit harsh. leaving home and learning to take responsibility for yourself is part of growing up. how many people are brave enough to not just leave home but to go to a strange foreign land, foreign culture, language etc. amongst no one they are familiar with. These people are the most dynamic people when they finish their studies and do not have the feckless self entitlement attitude so many spoilt newly graduated students have.

I don't think it's harsh -- blunt, maybe. Perhaps the OP is having trouble saying exactly what he means in English, but it sounds as though he (I assume he, anyhow) is expecting that someone else is going to do his laundry and clean house for him. That's not a realistic expectation, and the fact that he doesn't recognize it as being unreasonable makes me think he has so little grounding in the basics of living, both in terms of practical skills and getting along with people, that he is simply not equipped to handle the rigors of moving to a foreign country.
