well, to put it into perspective, of why I'll skip the guitar

1: no guitar, no instruments at all in this house. unless it's going to be industrial with everyday objects.
2: no microphone or video camera to record performance
3: what's wrong with showing that the class is too easy?

I thought the guy did a pretty good job, particularly if he really did learn this in just one week. However, he's pretty short sighted if he thinks that not doing homework is a good thing in the long term.

I read the post about desks. Sure if it's a philosophy class one could create all sorts of interesting discussions around the arguments presented there. On the other hand if it's not such a class, the teacher wants people to be paying attention and not doing distracting things. If he or she has to constantly remind people of rules, stop lecture to wait for noisy people to quiet down or to ask people not to put their feet on the desk, then it takes away from the students who are there to learn and take school seriously.

personally, I wouldn't want to work at a desk where somebody put there feet up. What if they stepped in something gross and got residue of it on the desk?

yeah, that's my point too. My pants came out of the laundry on that morning and my shoes weren't touching the desk at all. Really, if you don't bug me, then I won't be disruptive.

What was your beef with the teacher? He/she wasn't out of their realm by asking you to take your feet off the desk. Are you there to learn or to challenge authority?

dunno, the tone of his voice just struck me as something I needed to challenge.

Hmm...it could be that the professor was trying to set the tone for the entire class. I know a lot of professors who are very strict the first couple of weeks so that anyone who isn't serious will drop the class. Then later on, the profs loosen up considerably.

It may not have had anything to do with you personally, but was more sending a message to anyone who else who might think they can goof around and get away with it.
