hi im fairly new to fixed gear bikes and im looking into buying a '10 schwinn madison. ive searched the forum for pictures other than the ones from schwinn themselves and havent really found any.

i currently ride a 1984 super le tour fixed conversion with all the fixed gear stuff off a 2010 cutter.

my main question is, is the madison a good buy? i commute daily from new jersey into manhattan.

I would avoid the latest model, the handlebar setup is really not that practical (deal breaker for your needs), and you can get a much better deal on the older models. I think I have seen your craigslsit ad's recently by the way. Personally I would suggest somthing off bikes direct for half the price, they will be a bit lighter and have better major components.

you probably have! the handlebar setup on the current model is the same setup on my current bike. im used to it so im sure it wont be a problem. the reason im trying to stick with the schwinns is because i can get a good deal on them from a bike shop.

Personally I like the look of the older models, but I think the new one's look nice too. But they are a bit pricey for what you're getting.

I just bought a 2010 Sprint which has identical geometry to the 2010 Madison, and I'm impressed. Handling is stable enough to ride hands-free for a city block, yet quick enough to be very maneuverable.

At 23.87 pounds, it's heavier than I expected for a bike with Reynolds 853 frame tubing, but I'm going to put it on a diet.

i think your bike is the only one ive seen so far on the net. i thought about waiting a little longer and springing for a sprint but i think the madison will suit my needs just fine.

I had one and loved it. Get it, but get the 07 or 08, the other ones are ugly colors :P

i was looking at the 07. im short and the small is a hair too big! the 08 and 09 have lax geometry compared to the 2010. not that the geometry at xs is great anyway....

I got the original 80s Madison. Two years after your Le Tour. And it was priced right, too!

You can't get more FG than going vintage!

so i just ordered me a 2010 madison. i ordered an xs which is a 50cm. im 5'6" and i had a 2010 cutter with a standover of 30.3". the new madison is xs has a standover of 30.7". is this because of the "true track" geo as compared to the cutter? the cutter fit just fine so im guessing the xs would be best. what do you guys think?
