Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As I was bike nerding around the internet, I found this calculator. So I thought that I'd share with everyone!
Calculates gear inches, gear ratio, gain ratio, development both inches and meters, and a skid patch calculator as well. Gives you equivalent gearing as well as your speed.

I've seen several similar ones before, but this is the nicest so far. Thanks.

That's the one I've always used.
I especially like the skid patch calculator.

I have an iphone App. which is similar. It is called Bike Gears and does everything this one does plus it adds a speed/cadence calculator. The Interface is also very simple and elegant. It helped a lot with my SS conversion project. I heard about it in a review of Outdoor Magazine's 10 best apps for the iphone. The only downside is the price. At $4.99 it is one of the pricier iphone apps. But on the other hand, for the price of a Starbucks mocha latte, you have the convenience of a full single speed gear calculator that you can bring out to where ever you are working on the bike.
Check it out iphone cyclists.

It's a good program. I have seen it posted about a few times before and have been using it for a while now.

I saw that iPhone App recently - I think $5 is really steep for a calculator that you can find easily online on your iPhone browser (as long as it's not Flash-based)... or, you can just save a picture like the one below (made by Bike Forums member "noisebeam"!) to your iPhone (for free), which is a half-ways decent reference. If I was interested in my speed and/or cadence, I'd use a bike computer.

It might not have everything the app has, but it's just as useful IMO.
Here's another one with Gear Inches (http://rideyourbike.com/images/skidspots.jpg) instead of ratio, in case you're into that sorta thing.
How the heck do I get rid of that "attached thumbnail"? I wish the intercomputer wasn't smarter than me.
