I just had to post this one...worth the read. Rich girl flips out and her first target is some poor guy on his bike.
Be careful out there!

On the couple's 39X.com website, they say, "As Christians, we feel the message of Jesus is the top priority in our lives. Our clothing line is our way of spreading that message. By wearing 39X clothing you are saying that you understand that sacrifice He made for you."
The 39X site was taken down Friday after her arrest.
She explained the company's name: "Jesus in his last day was whipped 39 times. The lashings were brutal and painful. 39X is a reminder of that pain. He endured those lashings so that we may be saved."
Yikes.

Yeah, it sucks how they'll do a write-up on her in a positive note and hardly acknowledge the two people she critically injured.

Good God. That is the most completely insane article I've ever read. I wouldn't call it worthless; it's a case study for the dysfunction of the press.
On the other hand, the comment section is universally horrified by this woman. Don't think I've ever seen that in a case where a bike is involved. Not one person has tried to somehow blame the cyclist or defend the driver-- except the reporter at the paper. Weird.

-KurtThat article filled up my heart with love and I can't read it anymore! I mean, after I try to read the first paragraph half-way through, it's like the article is trying to turn my "no sympathy for you because you've committed several crimes already" into "wow, very nice woman." In short, positives (for example: beautiful woman) outweigh the serious negatives (crimes).
Very baffling :(

Wow.
We can go so many places with this. The "Female Blame Discount" the "Religious Blame Discount", etc. If it were just the headline I'd be inclined to blame it on a lazy copy editor. But the piece itself doesn't even qualify as objective journalism. I just have to ask if the paper thought the two people she ran over were athiests and said, "ah, screw em it was the Divine Will of the Allmighty".

Anybody who doubted that quality journalism was alive and well...
I like that the "newspaper" wouldn't have been surprised to see this crime spree from a Jew. Or an ugly person. All the hand-wringing over "a beautiful Christian woman" is a bit odd, to say the least.
The follow-up piece was decent as a celebrity/personality thing; it managed to fill some inches to separate the ads from one another. But how are the people she hit?

Meh.
It's just background.
The press (and readers) like stories of successful people brought low by their own actions.
The other injured people deserve their privacy.
They could not even be bothered to follow up on the two seriously injured people that she assaulted?!? They are probably good people as well, that didn't deserve to be brutally run-down by this psychotic woman.
It might be hard to do that without violating their privacy.
But how are the people she hit?
It might be hard to find out without violating their privacy.

"The cyclist, whose name is not being released to the public, is in the hospital in serious but not critical condition, while the driver of the truck who was flown to ... was released from the hospital on his own power ..."
How would that violate, or even affect, their privacy?
It's a little bit more newsworthy than how beautiful the assailant is. :D

They didn't have any information at 12:05 AM on Saturday (when the two articles were published).
Howard said Zampatti struck the bicyclist, a man, who was struck in the 1200 block of State Road A1A Boulevard. He was later airlifted to Shands in Jacksonville. The names and conditions of the victims were not released Friday.

Let me postulate a theory: almost every newspaper I've seen builds up a "feature file". Those are stories about people and places that really aren't newsworthy but nice articles to use when say an article's short or you have nothing else going on. So it's 11:59 pm, they're putting the paper to bed and realize they are a bit short. Somebody realizes that, "hey we have a feature on this person, but it's still too short. Why don't we update the article a little bit and put it on through." So they grab the junior copy boy and tell him to segue the article from the news paper.
It doesn't make it right and it doesn't make it journalism, but I can understand a little.
As far as the Christian, hate to go racist, but check out where that incident happened. It's not exactly a majority region for skeptics and athiests.

I didn't mind the second article. We already know she went on a homicidal spree with her car. They weren't pumping her up in any way as far as I could tell. I'll bet there is a follow-up that fills us in on more reasons for why she flipped out.
Can we keep the P&R stuff out of this thread? I know the newspaper started it.

Have they gotten the tox report back yet? What all did she have in her system? You know the "sad" thing is that if in the line of duty one or more LEO's opened fire on her and killed her. That some family member would be interviewed on TV and say "They didn't have to kill her." And does anyone know what all of the charges are or how she pleaded when she had her initial day in court?
Down here in Tampa we had a guy "barrow" his wife's or ex-wife's pickup and led Tampa's Finest on a marry chase south on Dale Maybry HGY, he ended up invading MacDill AFB with Tampa's Finest hot on his tail. They trapped him by the MacDill Ave. gate where he attempted to run over an officer with "his" pickup at which point all of the cops on the scene opened fire killing him.
His wife/ex-wife was interviewed on TV and that's what she said. I hate to break it to her but when he invaded MacDill AFB the SP's would have been justified in killing him. As from the time that he entered the main gate to he was fatally shot trying to run over a cop he was on borrowed time.

Whether they intended to write a sympathy piece or not, and even if this was responsible journalism ... it would be a travesty of justice if anybody on the jury read this.

http://www.historiccity.com/2010/staugustine/news/florida/zampatti-investigators-still-looking-for-victims-3082
The suspect, Andrea Lee Zampatti, 37, Canton, Georgia, is being held without bond on four felony charges: aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer; aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer; resisting arrest with violence; and aggravating fleeing and eluding police causing serious injury.
The Sheriff’s Office is still seeking at least three additional victims who have not come forward. A deputy who was pursuing Zampatti witnessed a woman driving a scooter as well as two bicyclists that were struck; however they left the scene before being identified.

Randya,
You know that when they're rich and pretty like she is that they're going to do everything that they can to paint her as a "poor misunderstood victim" instead of being a cold blooded killer. Maybe she didn't intend to kill anyone when she started her day, but something happened to make her "snap." Hopefully they'll be able to find out while they have her in the clink.

Im actually really interested to know the WHY in this case. Although I'm sure we never will... I mean really I doubt she got up that morning and decided to start running people down.
Was it a psychotic break?
Was she just that blitzed, and why?
Combonation of the two?
Maybe she really was just psychotic and holding it in.
I'm just interested to see what happened... and of course then to see them throw the book at her.

On Tuesday, the State Attorney’s office filed 14 felony charges against Andrea Zampatti, the Canton, Ga. woman accused of driving her car into multiple civilians and law enforcement officers in Ponte Vedra on April 23.
From the list of charges, I'm presuming that the cyclists survived the encounter.

I'm not sure which is more bizarre: the fact that an actual newspaper ran a story like that (with a headline like that), or the fact that EVERYONE in the comments section is agreeing with each other. Never seen that before.

Prejudice, positive or negative, is dysfunctional in advocating for safe cycling.
She's a woman not a girl.
Her association with wealth does not make her a good or bad driver.
Her declared religious affiliation does not make her a good or bad driver.
Let's be careful here.

Until proven otherwise. Plenty of adult males are not men, and plenty of adult females really still apparently need to be treated as children. Not saying that's the case here, but it's entirely possible for a female that's over 18 to deserve to be called a girl.

The second linked article states
She said on one of her sites, "Some people call me the 'Ultimate Sales Professional.' I simply like to be referred to as your 'Go To Girl,' I took my company from $200,000 in sales a year to over $2.5 million a year. (Then) I sold it for over seven figures."

Yeah, I would have clicked on that.
