View Full Version : What's your resting heart rate?

After finally getting back on the saddle and doing some good powerwalking with the dogs everyday, I have noticed a substantial drop in my resting heart rate, and BP. When in the military years ago, I worked out pretty much for a living, and my resting HR was around 50bpm or less.
But after being out of it for a few years, it has gone up to 70bpm. Now after only a month of proper diet, and excercise, it is back down to 60. I am really hoping to get it back down below 50bpm again. Luckily my blood pressure was only 110/70, now it is down to 100/60. I am hoping to get it back down to 90/50 like it was. Only time will tell.

So, for now...

RHR: 60bpm
BP: 100/60
Cholesterol: 1.40-1.70 depending

Same here, been watching foods and Working out for a month now. My HR is 65 and Bp has dropped from 140/75 to 109/60 and Ive even lost 10 pounds and got that deflated feel!

Feels good dont it?

Congrats and keep it up!

Age 42
RHR 42-45
MHR 195
BP 90/48

I've got to work on getting my MHR up to about 200 and I'll be pretty happy. I've always had incredibly low blood pressure. I have to be very carefull about getting up to fast or I get light headed.

don't remember where i read it on the net/google, but you can lose 2 beats a week, depending on what kind of body you have, when you take up serious endurance exercise. i also went down from 76 to 66 in my first couple months. (if we're talking resting heart beat taken when you wake up). no idea where i'm at now, but i'm sure it's good.. :)

RHR is usually between 42-44BPM. Max heart rate? don't know and don't care. BTW, I'm 50, and I like it. ;)

49/205 I have a lot of work to do still. I give myself a 6 out of possible 10 for fitness at the moment :(

Define "resting heart rate" for me.

Your heart rate if you were just sitting ("resting") doing something like posting on these forums.

Low 60's maybe high 50's. First thing when I wake up before I get out of bed, I don't know.

My RHR is usually between 45-50 (Age 45). However, the last time I had an EKG, it was measured at 35. The MD wanted me to run around the building or climb some stairs and do another EKG!

G'day,

It's not actually possible to raise your MHR. You can lower your resting rate by increasing fitness, & also increase the 'output' required to get to your MHR, but you cannot raise it. Actually, your MHR will decrease with age. It can also decrease with increased fitness. The measurement of MHR isn't an indicator of overall fitness, nor actually of RHR. Whilst my RHR is vey low, my HR increases rapidly under load. It;s all about 'output' or 'load' rather than numbers

My RHR 38
MHR 186

cheers,

He was technically dead.

I have an abnormal sinus rhythm, so mine varies. :) 50's to 60's normally.

Indurain like LA has an abnormally large heart though as well, right?

Well, yeah, but so do all elite athletes. It's called "athlete's heart." As you exercise, your HR drops, but your heart gets bigger/stronger. Indurain's 28 beats would move about the same amount of blood as Patriot's 60. The difference is when it's pumping along at full speed. If Patriot does 200 BPM and Indurain does 200 BPM, Indruain's (theoretically) pumping twice as much blood, since his heart has twice the capacity.

Indurain was a freak because of his 8 L lung capacity.

Pre's RHR was 27.
I'm 21 and mine is 50-52.
Max: Don't know, but have seen just over 200 on the ol' HRM before.

Gosh...
I must be dead too. My resting HR is between 35 & 38.
I'm going to be 39 in September. I'm 5'11" & 205 lbs

From what I remember, when I ran track in school my HR after running was so low my coach always asked me when I'll be alive.

I took a stress test at a carteologist last year, because my doctor was worried. It took over 30 minutes to get my HR over 120 (or something like that). The carteologist said I was in great shape and made me promise to keep doing what I'm doing and to never comeback (he was going to go to lunch & figured my test would be quick).

I'm new to cycling and to the forum. I started biking about a month ago to train for the MS-bike tour & to do something with my kids. I usually play hockey (2-3) times a week and golf (always walking, never a cart).

I hope to visit this forum and get new ideas and pointers from all the experts.

24 y/o RHR is typically between 32-42. Not sure of the MHR. When I took my stress test for the fire department, they kicked my off after 20 minutes because my HR wouldn't go above 140.

I'd hate to see what it is next year if I follow my goal of hitting hard base miles over the winter.
