Road Cycling - Fuji Newest vs. the lance factor

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey what does any one have to say about the fuji Newest. I just picked up an 04 for a song ($625 lists for $830). Compared to the trek 1000 ($569) i think i made out pretty well. The Newest had all tiagra and a carbon fork, the trek had none of the above. I think you pay a hell of a lot for the lance factor and can get a lot more bike from a fuji.

I've got a Fuji Ace that I love dearly, but it was time to move up. It really is possible to feel the frame flex. I recently got a Cannondale with 9 speed DA and a CAAD5 frame; it makes all the difference in the world. I wouldn't go back, but I don't necessarily regret getting the Fuji, either. Had I started with the Cannondale, it'd have been way too much bike, and I'm sure I would have quit early on.
You can beat the hell out of your Fuji and just kinda bend it back into shape. Oh, and it's cheap to upgrade, since it's all so low in the line, anyway.
Enjoy it!

I dont get it. the trek is 100 bucks cheaper then the fuji. perhaps you should have compared to the 1200 or something.

Might should have checked around...I have seen 04 Trek 1500 going for $850. Beats the 05 1000 and the 04 Fuji Newest hands down.

You're not making a fair comparison. The Trek 1200 is all Tiagra and has a carbon fork and lists for the same price as the Newest. A 2004 closeout sale price for the 1200 should be comparable to that of the Newest. Fuji makes fine bikes, as does Trek, but there doesn't seem to be any "Lance factor" when you compare apples to apples.
As a side note, there seems to be a lot of Trek bashing on these boards. It's usually accompanied by misinformation (claims like only the CF road bikes are US made) and ridiculous comparisons like the above. While Treks are not for everyone (my Trek is 26 years old and the newer ones aren't to my tastes), they consistently lead the industry by building quality innovative products.
