Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

When ever i pedal realy hard (mostly standing up) my BB sounds like the crank on a wind up toy except much louder. If it helps at all this bike is a trek 4900 with xt RD and lx FD and dukes. The sound doesnt affect the performance of the bike (as far as i can tell) but it is realy realy annoying and just cant be good. Is there anyway i can save it possibly or schould i just get a replacment?

Quick and to the point. And probably wrong.
Start with the pedals, then the cranks. Make sure its all nice and tight (have your LBS do it if you are not inclined). Have em check the fit/tightness of the bottom bracket. Since it happens while standing, we can elimnate the old chestnut of the seat post.
Could still be a hosed bracket, but at least you don't go rushing to swap something that may not be the problem.
I though my newly aquired (but 14 yr old) Phil Woods bracket had gone south, it made such a racket. Turned out that the cups had just worked loose.
