Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - Trekking Bars?

Anybody use on centuries, brevets, etc.? I see them in touring, not sure in LD. I was thinking about swapping out my drops on my CrossCheck. I am working up to almost a century for the end of the summer (Huntington Beach to San Diego). I am not really like my current drops. So, I was looking at something with either shallower drops or the trekking bars were looking interesting.

Have you had a professional fit done? That can make a world of difference in comfort.

i do and love them. i have them on 2 of my bikes, as i am not a big fan of drop bars either.

I had a basic fit, but have since changed soem stuff. My drops are just standard racing bars, kind of deep. I liked the varied hand postions, but the trekking bars looked intriguing.

illwafer, awesome looking bike. I have a Brooks on my Cross Check. Is that an Acorn bag? I have missed out the last three months, I want to try to get a medium on May 1st. I think a medium would be good for tube(s), tools, CO2, wallet, phone, keys, snacks, jacket, etc? I was thinking the small might be too small. Also, I have the Kleen Kanteens. However, with plastic holders as I couldn't find metal that fit or didn't make a sound that made me react like nails on a chalkboard.

As far as the trekking bars, what are the hand positons?

i get the nails on chalkboard thing too. often, i ride with plastic bottles if i am just carrying water (won't put anything but water in them).

as far as hand positions, there are 3 mains ones.
1. the flats (like a straight bar). this is where i put the brake levers.
2. the sides.
3. the tops (forwardmost).

most often, i ride in variations of the side. in no way am i aero, but i don't find any aero positions comfortable on my neck anyway.

That is a heck of a price on the bag. The Acorn Medium I was looking at is $85. However, it may be too big. lol Looking at the pic and the pics I saw in a Google search, it looks massive. I am not sure it will fit with my rack installed. Seems to hang low.
