Rides and Races - RVA Alleycat: Mathlete's Revenge hosted by Saddle Sores

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Apparently creating incentives to bring the female cycling community to a race and not a scavenger hunt, is worthless. Some of the women cyclists complained that awarding 1st place girl was sexist. On the most basic level, it is.

The point of awarding 1st place girl was to create an incentive for girls to possibly win double prizes as it doesn't entail that a girl could not get 1st 2nd or 3rd overall. I felt that this was a good way to get girls amped and want to come out to an event that they might not normally participate in, an alleycat race (read: race, not scavenger hunt).

So, as a result of these feminists complaining, there is no longer a prize for 1st girl. However, given that this is a race, be prepared to match sprint if there is a tie. Don't worry, it will be gender equal with no handicaps.

Also I'd like to point out that you don't have to come to an event if you don't support it.

Right now there's Dan Lin (Facebook) who took some pics, and this flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/eightypercentdark/

I'll update as more come up... We're setting a Saddle Sores blog up now so that should be the "go to" source for all the pics.
