Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Just wiped out on wet tram tracks

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Ouch. Bike ok -check. Body - sore knee, torn lycra, numb arm, bleeding fingers -ok.

Okay.
1. Glad to see you checked your bike first. I do the same thing. Odd, ain't it?
2. Third time's a charm - find a new route?
3. Please never ever post again on how you tore lycra. If you do, you will be forced to join the local Stryper cover band.

1. Always, a reflex
2. It's probably the most 'zombified' intersection in central Helsinki, in corner of a big dept.store. Three tram lines intersect, and peds make it hard... will figure out something, like slowing down :D
3. 3/4 lenght bibs UNDERNEATH work shorts, just about cover knees (or did).

Yikes, Bikkhu, you have in just a couple of days you have experienced two of my worst crashes! The diesel spill put me in the hospital to have a football sized hematoma surgically drained. That was a couple of years ago.
My first day on my brand new bike just 2-3 weeks after I started commuting, almost 4 years ago, I attempted to cross wet street car tracks, but my rear wheel slid and dropped right in, sending me to the pavement. Of course this happened right in front of a crowd of high school kids waiting for a bus, providing 100% of their recommended daily allowance of amusement. What could I do but stand up and take a bow?
Since I ride down the middle of the tracks I can't really cross them perpendicularly, so when they are wet and slick as grease I slow to a near stop before crossing at the biggest angle I can.

So that must explain your European streak!
Ok, more damage. My mechanic pal noticed the rear rim (Sun Venus) had a split originating from a spoke nipple. Rim over. Well, I am getting a nice Mavic Open Pro/Sapim Laser job this weekend. Now riding singlespeed MTB backup
bikkhu, get this and you will be safer on the road:
I wish my parents had gotten me those when I got my first bike. We went down to soCal and I guess my grandmother won a bmx bike bowling - first 'how to ride a bike?' = put him on the bike Chriistmas morning, have an uncle hold the seat, run really fast with me on the seat in a field and let go. I wrecked many times that day. I got the training wheels when we got back to noCal, but it took FOREVER before I would let my parents take them off... Just kept thinking about that day in the park accross from my grandmas...
It's amazing I love bikes now and don't hate them.
And Sohi - thanks for bringing back a childhood memory :)
Bikkhu... Be safe out there, or iŽll have to do your job.. ;) My first riding experience: my uncle sat me down on a bike, and pushed me down the hill.. Pedal or die... But despite the fact that i truly hate my uncle nowadays, i still love bikes.
my first bike was actually fixed gear. my dad used to push me around and
at one point he just let me go without telling me and I carried on pedaling
still convinced he was holding my bike :)
You lucky... uh... what do you call a female cat?
