Not really. He was acquitted of assault. How a jury could see that video and then acquit him of assault is beyond me, but all it shows is that if you are a police officer in New York, you can continue committing assaults against people without fear of consequences, video or no video.

There were consequences. His Dad was a cop. He wanted to be a cop, he became a cop, and after 11 days on the force he destroyed his career with one bonehead move and he can no longer be a cop. Likely he got off on lesser charges because the jury felt bad about him losing his future as a cop.

You're missing the point. He was convicted of falsifying a police report. Had he not done that, and had simply assaulted the cyclist, he may very well have been back on the force right now. He even said during the trial that he hoped to rejoin the force if he were acquitted.

So, yeah, you falsify a police report, and apparently a jury will hold you accountable. But bum rushing and tackling a cyclist with no reasonable cause - no problem!

True, but what he falsified on the police report, as I understand it, was the assault itself. So he was punished for the assault, in a way.

Yeah, I think this is wrong, hes should get additional jail time for assault. This is ridiculous.
