Advocacy & Safety - Something like this for stop signs/red lights/bike lanes???

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm thinking there'd be less red light running (by motorists, at least) if doing so would instantly destroy your car.

Sorry if this isn't really A&S but I figured some of the people here might like it and I couldn't think of anywhere else to post it.

There's another YouTube vid that uses the one of the woman getting out of her car while it's 'impaled'; a totally Euro collection of silly/stupid things done by women drivers over there. Of course, NOW, I can't find it...! I remember one from it where the woman thought the snow-covered fountain in front of a building was a parking lot; another, she couldn't park her car in five full minutes of effort -- another driver, male, put it in the parking spot in less than 30 seconds.

Funny.

Be interesting to see what such posts would do to say, an Escalade; even more so to see the reaction of the junior thug driving it!

What are those for? I mean, why do they pop up after one vehicle has passed through?

Well, with europes tiny city streets a lot of the smaller streets in residential parts of the cities are access controlled as far as cars go. Buses, taxis(not always), emergency services and people who live in the neighborhood can get in. Others can't. In areas like this theres pretty much always some parking lot or somewhere for people to park in the area. These jackasses probably just wanted to be able to park on the street and so they tried to sneak into the neighborhood behind a bus. Pretty stupid. I would never try that.
In amsterdam they come up pretty slow and we used to stand on them when drunk and wait for them to come up. Good fun.

Another thing I'd like to see, particularly in areas with low speed limits like city centers and residential areas, would be "severe tire damage" spike strips across the whole road that would pop up and rip the tires off of any car doing > 5 MPH over the limit.

They're there to keep cars out of the bus lanes. London has convienient shortcuts for their buses, that regular vehicles aren't allowed to use. Those retractable bollards block the shortcuts.
