HI everyone.

what is the point of tubeless tires. considering that if they get damaged, and cant be repaired you have to buy a new tires as opposed to just buying a new tube which is much cheaper.

Tubeless tires are pretty much indestructable and alot less hassel not having to buy tubes anymore oh and they have a really bad tendensy to let out a lot of air at times well mine did anyway. but other then that they are good and you wont destroy them before you wear the tread off them, i've seen guys drill screws and put nails through them then put them back on their bike and ride. in the end its what you prefer and what stlye of riding you do i really. so if your doing Dh or FR go with tube but if your riding urban or even XC then tubeless.

I'm not sold on tubeless (although my rims are tubeless compatible). The biggest pro is the ability to run them at lower pressures wtihout fear of pinch flats.

You can use tubeless for DH. But face it. On DH there will always be stuff that will pop the tires. Thats why you buy Arrow DH tubes and end it all. 2mm thick tube sidewalls. They are tough tubes. (And a b*tch to get on.)

Tubeless are great! Only probably I have is the deflation when I don't ride for a couple of weeks. Why exactly does that happen, anyway?

Small holes in the tires maybe. The air leaks out slowly. But appears to be a lot over a weeks time.

What about the tire rolling off the rim? Tubeless makes sense on road at very high psi, I'm still not sure about trails.
I heard that one trick to make tubed tires feel like tubeless is to coat the tube and inside of tire with talcum powder, also prevents pinch flats. I bet this would work better with graphite or silicone dry lubricant (safe for rubber).

I am a sort of off road rider, not XC though.

Once you go tubeless, you'll understand. I can now run very low air pressure, and my bike simply sticks to the trail under any type of condition. Also, I've not had one single flat tire (I use liquid inside) since I went tubeless early last year.

There really is no comparison, IMHO.

There's still isn't a very extensive selection of tubeless tires to choose from. Regardless, I believe they're going to be more and more prevalent as time goes on. My new rig (when it arrives) is getting tubeless.
