Road Cycling - Torelli/mondonico owners...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Did you have your bike painted in Italy, or the US? The paint job I want costs a fortune in the U.S., but I haven't seen the italian paint anywhere...so I dunno what to do..

I had mine painted in the USA. It is a very high quality job and I am very happy with it. As I understand it, the Italian paint is not as durable and, for Mondonico frames, only available in the Mondonico signature colors. Those colors are, for most of the frame, a light orange that fades to black on the seat- and chainstays.
You are really going to love your frame.
I've heard you can get a nice one for around 200 here in the Bay Area, so up in OR it should be cheaper.
Not sure about Torelli or Mondonico, but I have a 6 year old DeBernardi (painted in Italy) that has held up just fine over the years. And I've been caught in the rain quite a few times. The only thing I've noticed is a few very small flakes of chrome off the rear dropouts right where I torque down the quick release. It looks like the frame is painted (gloss black) first, and then the rear triangle is chromed so the chrome didn't bind as well to the painted surface.
All in all, beautiful paint and chrome with quite a bit of hand air-brush accents (gold, silver and purple).
The American paint job I got through Torelli was not very expensive, but all I wanted was black.

does anyone make a paintjob thats just a clearcoat over the steel? I think that would be so freakin awesome. steel gets discolored from welding, right? DUDE THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. and so badass looking. if I get a custom bike, I want it to look like that.
