Recumbent - How many miles do you have ?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

O.K., I am asking the recumbent riders out there about the mileage they put on in a an average year, or lifetime. I only had a few miles on my recumbent a Linear LWB, USS and broke my leg. I could ride it fast and turn well and it felt like flying a small airplane. But i stalled in a slow u turn when i lost speed and like a fool stuck my leg out and it snapped.
So what about all you pro riders with alot of road miles on a recumbent. I feel like i had a freak accident.

I started riding a bent On June 10, 2003. Since then, I've ridden 6500 accident free miles on 3 bents.

We bought our BikeEs in March of 2002 and the first year we rode 1508 miles, in 2003 we finished the year on Dec 31 tring to make 1800 miles but the cold made us give up at 1796 miles, and this year we put over 1500 miles and then we just took delivery of our new Rans V-Rexes and now have 1678 miles for the year. As we are planning to ride this afternoon, the weather is beautiful, we will have over 1700 miles so far this year. This totals to just over 4000 miles since we went to bents. Thats not too bad for a 61 year-old overweight retired teacher and his medically challanged wife (an Agent Orange cancer survivor in a greatly weaken state - who thanks to Republican rules made by Governor Engler and his Party cannot receive any benefits from the state or federal government)! Remember it was the Democrats that put money into the federal transportation budget for "non-motorized transportation networks" and it was the Bush Administration that tried to cut it out entirely in its last budget.

The only accident I've ever had was failing to unclip on my df 5+ years ago. God that was embarrassing! Did it in front of about 20 other bikers. Wasn't hurt though.
I've been riding my bent for over 2 years now. I'm a recreational rider only so my mileage is low, only about 700 miles so far this year. But no accidents of any kind.

See my post on your "Broken Leg" Thread.
I've been biking exclusively for the past 10 years. I don't own a car. I put about 4 to 5 thousand miles a year on my bike. The only accidents I've had have been on DFs before I got my BikeE. Most of those were in my crazed mountain bike period when I was living in New Mexico and trying to do crazy downhill things in sand. Falling into cactus sucks major big time. I broke a wrist once when the back wheel went out from under me and I went down hard. Since switching to recumbent, I've had nothing at all, not even a close call. I don't do anything too crazy these days, just dodging traffic here in Wilmington. Oh, I did fall over the first day I had my clipless pedals, but that was mostly just embarrassing. I've had bikes since I was 14. I dumped the car 10 years ago, and never looked back.

I have had my first recumbent, an Optima Lynx, for a week now and have done about 200kms. I had my first crash today when I hit a patch of gravel on an unfamiliar corner at speed. The backwheel washed out. I was clipped in and I never even left my seat. Apart from some gravel rash on my thigh, I was fine. The bike lost a bit of paint too. However I'm sure that if I had done the same stunt on a df, I would have parted company with the bike and been more seriously hurt.

Been riding an Infinity LWB since 1993 and accumulated about 10K on it. I have set a foot out several times and never broke anything although it slid out from under me a couple of times. You had a freak accident. The only accident that I had on the bent is when a canadian goose attacked me.
