Hi!

I'm 56 and I have a 1986 Specialized Street Stomper which I use for commuting, errands and weekend bike rides, including some trail riding. I love riding my bike but the beloved old Street Stomper is getting frustrating. So I'm looking for a new hybrid. Having not bought a bike for more than 25 years, I know next to nothing about them. So I figured I'd join this forum and try glean some wisdom from people who know more about this than I do!

Welcome to BF.
What bike(s) are you thinking about buying?

I'm trying to narrow it down to three or four bikes I can test-ride pretty thoroughly. So far Gregg's Greenlake has strongly suggested the Gary Fisher Montare or Mendota, which do seem like possibilities. I'm very interested in the Marin Pt. Reyes but haven't yet found a shop in Seattle or Portland with one in stock, I want to look at the Cannondale Quick and Bad Boy (which I will do at REI today) and I looked at a Fuji Absolute 1.0, which was nice and light but seemed maybe too road-bikey and insufficiently mountain bikey for me. I'm told I should look at the Specialized Ariel, so I will definitely do that. I'm wondering if I should identify a Trek to check out. Got any other suggestions?
