I'd like to buy a MAPP torch for "hard brazing" - I.E, using 50%+ silver solder. Can anyone recommend a brand? I hear the high-end Bernzomatics are nice.
I have used the bernzo model with the pietzo. It works fine. Mapp was a mixed blessing, it worked better being hotter, but it created quite a bit of contamination, soot. Never had a rack come apart, but it wasn't nice. Propane is pretty cold, but a lot of it will get the job done. Hybrid burners has the best burners. Overall better to get set up of PO or AO.
The pietzo bernzomatic is good. Local hardware stores also have the hosed one which is similar but without the pietzo. Look for the torches with large air holes. Once I set it close to max and the MAPP bottle got very cold, with condensation. It was drawing plenty of gas.
I agree in getting a oxy-fuel setup. I did recently. No coming back.
