I purchased 2 new bikes this past week, a Vitesse P18 for me and Mu P8 for the wifey, and while I gave each a test-ride before thanking the salesman, folding them into the trunk and driving off - what items should be tested and checked over?

Is there a checklist of things - like wobbly tires, examining brake alignments, etc., that a new buyer should look for?

bring them to your Local Bike Store for a check-up round.... congrats on your new bikes. pictures please and have fun....

IMO: Bike owners need to learn very basic mechanical skills and what needs to be tightened/adjusted on their bike(s).

I take bikes in when it's past my skill level, but try to learn from mechanic what needs to be done and how to do it.

It does take a few specialized tools, but you can save the cost of the tools in a couple of saved visits. The bike also gets fixed faster and won't breakdown as often. Sort of like knowing something about how your car runs.

Not trying to cut-out my LBS, just trying to keep our bikes running smoothly.
