Bicycle Mechanics - Crank/Power Meter Install

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I installed a set of SRM powermeter cranks last nite on my Campy chorus square tapered bottom bracket. The SRM manual says"
"Clean the bb axle & lightly coat the ends with grease to allow the cranks to be tightened without binding"
However, on Park Tools website it says that you don't need to grease aluminum BB's/crank arms when installing.
Because I was installing the SRM, I chose followed the SRM manual and lightly greased the BB axle.
Is this bad?!!?
I've always been told the only part on a bike that never gets greased is the BB spindle, but I'm not really sure why. I wouldn't have greased it but I imagine a light coat won't cause the bike to spontaneously burst into flames or anything like that.

Cool...I wonder why that is? Anyway, will this make a difference for 1 ride? I don't have time to go home, dismantle, clean, and get out and ride...wuz gonna do it afterwards...
Thanks!

It's a religious topic. Some say grease them, some say don't. If you grease them, get the tightness right when you mount the cranks, and don't go back and retighten them after riding.
Anybody know what happened to the Barnett's sticky thread?
Anybody know what happened to the Barnett's sticky thread?
It was pulled at the request of John Barnett himself - legal issues and whatnot
