General Cycling Discussion - Need roof rack recommendations for road bikes.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I transport bikes alot. I have Thule rails, a couple Thule big mouths and an older thule frame held rack. I have another car with Thule rails that I would like to put some racks on. I only transport road bikes and they almost always have thin frame tubes (they are usually older bikes). If the tubes are bigger I can put them on the back rack or in the trunk.
So what would your recommendation be, for some racks that are sturdy and easy to secure bikes to? oh and not too expensive? And maybe ones that I could fit 4 bikes on a roof with? ease of use is really important as I will be using them alot. (I want ones that secure both wheels, not a 'fork mount')

If you're willing to rethink the fork mount part PM me. I have some Thule VeloVise bike mounts that I'd let go for next-to-nothing.
Thanks for your offer. After some research I've decided to get some Thule 525's. Need to mount both wheels; no room in the car for wheels. Only problem is I can't find any. If anyone wants to sell me some 525's or knows where I can get some please pm me. I've googled but everyone seems to be out of stock (they are discontinued)

IF you've already made up your mind, ignore this--I've never used Thule cartop racks, but I have two trunk-mount Thules that have worked great for years.
For cartop carry-age, though, it's hard to beat yakima. I've had mine on four (or is it five?) different cars with just Q-Tower changes, gone tens of thousands of miles at high speeds and over all kinds of roads from interstates to rocks with up to four bikes, and I've never had a slip or a wobble. Even on a Civic coupe, where the towers can only be about 19 inches apart, it worked great.
Not cheap, though. I got the crossbars free from a friend and my LBS-owner buddy got me the towers at his cost, but I still have about $600 in it.
