Many of you know Voldemort. He texted me that he had a nasty crash on his Sputnik Fixie and had been in the hospital a couple of days due to the fact that he could not recall any of the details of the crash.

I was encouraged that he was texting me to cancel a ride we had planned some time back. Hoping whatever memory loss it is affects just short term memory. I can say that Voldemort is a friend you can count on as he was texting me from a hospital bed :)

No broken bones....just cuts and bruises.

Hoping he'll check in here.

So, Voldemort, if you're finally outta there, let us know all is well!

Short term memory loss is common in many crashes, even when there is no injury. Glad to hear that he is, overall, unharmed and that they are being cautious.

best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Thanks all. Much appreciated. Still no idea why I crashed. Cruising on FP trail near Shoe Factory Road...next thing I know I'm on the ground hearing voices near me, and having no idea what was going on. Hauled off in an ambulance which came down the trail, I think, to St Alexius. They think I had a minor concussion, 'cause I can't remember much of this.

Lots of neurological and cardiology tests to try and figure out why I can't remember anything before the crash, either. (trying to figure out if I passed out for some reason, then crashed, etc.) All tests came up negative.

Bike is scraped up on right bullhorn brake and left pedal smashed, so combining that with a cracked helmet and scrapes and road rash on the tops/backs of my arms and hands...I must have hit rt. bullhorn, head, then flipped in air(?) and landed smashing left pedal and shoulder/hand/kneecalf...and somehow inner elbow.

Crap, no wonder I'm still sore (and scabbed all over).

To any non-helmet wearers who might be reading this...without a helmet, I'm either dead or severely brain injured right now, instead of just scraped up.

BTW, for some STUPID reason, I didn't bother wearing gloves...may need a couple skin grafts by two knuckles.

Later, all.

Glad you're 'okay'. I lost two day's memory from my last crash ... or maybe they just got sick of me and drugged me? I remember checking for traffic entering the road about a mile from where I was hit, then .... nothing until three days later.

+1 on the head bucket.

Oh wow! Glad you are OK. I think someone who frequents my bike shop witnessed your crash possibly and might be the one who called the ambulance. He said he was on that trail and saw someone go down hard in front of him and when he approached the rider he was unconscious. He brought in his bike today to the shop while I was there and was telling us about it. He said you or whoever it was, I am guessing you, was pretty fsck'd up. If it is the guy, he is an ex-navy seal who is now back in the navy recruiting people just for that position.

So glad you're ok. I'm still hoping there might be a chance for the Double or Nothing????? Maybe wishful thinking, I know. Next time you want to cancel a ride with me, you need not do something so dramatic. ;) Heal up friend, either way, this summer we're riding together in WI :) + 1 on the helmet but you're preaching to the choir here.

Are those burns healing up okay? ;)

I think it is likely you came apart from the bike during the fall and your injuries and the bike's damage are not strictly in sync.

I did an endo two years ago that I do clearly remember. Right over the handlebars, did the face plant (actually landed chin-first and still busted the helmet). When I got up, the bike was well past me. I later found that the stay on my rear rack was bent, and found the mark where it hit my helmet. So not only did the helmet protect from the primary impact, but also from the bike when it landed on top of me. When that stuff happens, it happens fast. I managed to stay conscious through the whole thing and it was actually pretty interesting seeing the ground come up at me, kind of like a camera on a skydiver's helmet when he lands. I remember seeing sidewalk - pebbles - individual grains of sand - specks of dust - POW!

Anyway, I hope you suffer no lasting effects from the crash.

If you can get me a name and number, I'd really appreciate it. Mainly just to say thanks, but also to ask if he saw any particular reason I crashed. BTW, what shop are you at?

Saw plastic surgeon today. He thinks I might heal without a need for any skin grafts. Yay! I go back in a week to have him check out the healing process. Still not able to close my hands around handlebars, grab brakes, etc. so I'm still out of action for awhile.

It was very odd sitting in the little room waiting to have my hand checked out and seeing half a dozen options for breast implants laying on the table. I'm guessing he was a little disappointed when he walked in and didn't find someone half my age, female, and opening up her shirt to ask his opinion.

Greg, glad to hear you're OK. You should have opened up your shirt and showed which ones you wanted him to implant. That would have left him speechless I'm sure. Heal up fast..Make sure that cue hand is in good shape. I'm sure Scummer and iab want a rematch..

If anybody brings a tandem I could be stoker and have my hands taped to the handlebars a la the taped-in feet in Breaking Away.
