I am 5'11-6'0 and have a 32 inseam. Generally speaking do think this frame size would be too small?
Seat tube= 54cm c-c
top tube= 55cm c-c
chain stay= 40.8

dang, thats what i figured. well in that case , there is a nice 2000 54cm Fondriest w/ultegra up on ebay

Not so fast...I am 5-11, but have a long torso and short legs, I comfortably ride a 54...could ride a 55-56, but have found the best fit is 54 for me...there are pros who also ride a smaller frame than you might think...it will be quicker...and you will trade off some stability and comfort...but it could fit you...just depends on your body type

Is that your true inseam or the number on the back of your Levi's. I'm 6'0" with a 35" true inseam and usually ride a 61cm. Of course, I like a bigger frame than most people.

First off, get an accurate measurement of your inseam. Jam a telephone book in your sensitive area while in your bare feet, making sure the book is square against a wall. Do the measurement a couple of times to make sure the measurement is consistent. I suspect your inseam will measure in the 34 to 35 inch range. If not and you do have a 32 inch inseam, a 54 c-c seat tube is not out of the range. However, the more important measurements are the top tube length and the head tube height.
My recommendation is to go to www.competitivecyclist.com and go through their fit calculator. It will give you an acceptable range of sizes, all resulting in a "race" position. If you are a beginner, you may have to jump up a size due to the flexibility required for a competitive position.
As a side note and speaking from a purely prejudicial point of view, the Fondriest is heck of nice bike. If it fits, you surely won't be dissapointed!!!

just a side note - i'm really tall and i found the competitivecyclist.com's fitchart to still yield size recommendations that were small for me. i ended up going 1cm larger than the max recommendation for French Fit and i'm happy.

Everyone is going to like a different fit. Your body will tell you if there is a problem. I would have your LBS fit you and also look at the above links. They should give you a starting point to make sure you don't seriously hurt something.

I'm 5 11 1/2, 33 as measured from groin to ground, bought a 54cm at a steal, well wish now I didn't - very expensive bike as I hardly ride it. tried hard to 'make it fit' and just finally gave up. I wouldn't get it till you rode and expereinced the fit.

Get fit by the best known, best reputation shop you can find - your local cycle touring clubs/sport cycling clubs will have some good recommendations. Everyone's going to have a different opinion, but I think that most guys your size will ride at least a 56 or 57. Let someone local and qualified help you to not make an expensive mistake.

PS - didn't you feel like you were a little hunched up (vs. comfortably stretched) over the short top tube? You sound slightly long-waisted...

56 cm sounds about right.
