Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - How Many Bikes (ss/fg) Do You Have?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've decided that I need/want a new FG just to mess around on.

But I'm curious about who has multiple bikes that essentially serve the same purpose? I had two fixies but I gave one to my friend (I'm a nice guy like that) and now I'm thinking I need to get another one, in case something happens to my only one. :D

So the question is, how many FG/SS bikes that serve the same purpose do you have?

1 Fixed / SS, starting my second build next week will end up with 2 SS / fixed, but that seems slightly redundant, so I'll probably just sell the first one.

The Gran Sport is a pretty little thing... have removed the rack and fitted a Fizik saddle since I took this pic... will probably be selling her if I find a good home.

1 Kilo fixed that serves as my all weather/ fat rubber and risers / comfy fun bike.
1 Felt TK2 that is my fast/ non-lockup/ hope to hit the track soon bike.
1 Rossin road bike for long trips and when I don't feel like fixed.
1 SS converted Trek MTB that is honestly the most comfortable, and a really fun city bike/ winter ride.

More guitars than bikes.

I suppose, technically, I have two Surly Steamrollers. One maroon, and one cream. But the creamroller's currently in the hands of a bike thief. (The maroon one is its replacement.)

The number of fg bikes now equals the number of bikes with gears.

My Wabi Classic and Windsor Hour are both ss/fg.

Zero ss/fg. I was planning to buy one but I've spent most of my money on tuition and don't have a job. Any suggestions of place to work here in Vancouver?

Ha, funny that you asked...I'm also a student without a job, been using some of my savings to buy parts...didn't use a whole lot though. Still deciding what to do for post secondary, I'm looking for a job too, I've been going to cafe and food-related places. Vancouver BC? or Vancouver, Washington?

most of my peers have just one bike. but then there are the oddities, the ones that seem to collect bicycles. they are typically older, have proper employment, families and kids, and almost never ride.

Sixty Fiver
05-09-10, 10:21 PM
I am older, have a family, am self employed... and ride more than most people.

I have a policy of not owning a bike that I won't ride and even my "garage queen" gets taken out at least once a week and will probably ride her tomorrow as it will get me in the mood for some restoration work I am doing at the bike co-op.

Her younger sister is a fixed gear... is 20 years younger... and has seen a much harder life.

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikepics/cotd4.JPG

But then again... I am working on an old raleigh so perhaps I should ride an old Raleigh instead... :)

http://www.ravingbikefiend.com/bikepics/1954raleighsports5.JPG

We will see what the weather is like as the Raleigh is a rain friendly bike while the old Peugeot is a fair weather girl despite her pretty skirts.

BC. I assumed you're from here too. I don't know much about Vancouver, Washington but I don't think they get as much rain. I was thinking about getting a part time at Costco but the hours are like 5-10 AM.

I got 4 bikes and 3 of them are fixed. I use them all. Over the years I've had a lot of different types of bikes, but I would always sell them because they didn't fit all I was looking for since I don't own a car and do the majority of my commuting by bike. They all serve different purposes and my rationale is that of Sixty-Fiver. I don't like owning a bike if I'm not going to use it.
